Traditional Homes
Del Mar Beach House
A blended family from LA County wanted their new beach home to serve as a backdrop for casual living – a getaway where siblings, parents, and grandparents can gather, relax, and create memories. On an exceptionally narrow oceanfront lot, we created light-filled, uncluttered interiors with a simple, monochromatic exterior. Traditional materials and finishes were edited and modernized to create bright, airy spaces. White painted wood, white glazed tiles, and warm wood and textiles create serene interiors with lots of texture. Big retractable doors capture sparkling ocean views and open to generous outdoor spaces where the family can read, play cards, or dine. It was important to them that the second floor remain exclusive – private spaces to escape house guests, to work remotely, and to relax. The primary suite has several skylights to let natural light pour into the interiors, maintaining privacy along the sides of the house where they more closely abut their neighbors.
I am always inspired by nature, and the sense of place, and the palette here is directly taken from the coastal rocks, sand, and sky that surround the property.
