Coastal Beach Residence

On a secluded lane with bluff-top ocean and island views, a rancher from the San Joaquin Valley purchased two neighboring properties with a goal of creating an oceanside compound to escape the heat and dust of ranch life. While remodeling the existing home, we got busy designing a new home on the extra-narrow lot next door. The challenge was to create a feeling of spaciousness, and to blur the boundary between the two properties - connecting them for shared uses and opening views, while at the same time creating a feeling of seclusion, privacy, and escape. The new home was designed in the same bold, modern style with big door openings to capture views and bring the outdoors in. The simple interiors are a serene backdrop for the owners collection of natural textiles, art, and family heirlooms.
